Heriz is very close to the famous city of Tabriz in North West Persia. However, despite this proximity, Heriz shares virtually no similarity with rugs from Tabriz. The design is a very recognizable angular style, which usually incorporates a central medallion with surrounding geometric floral forms and inwardly decorated corners.
In terms of quality, next best are those produced in Mehriban and the poorest quality are Geravans, which are quite often sought after due to their price being reasonable..
Genuine Heriz rugs are very expensive and quite rare, hence they are sought after by dealers in Iran apart from overseas markets. Only vegetable dyes are used, thus ensuring longevity and enhancing their investment potential. Heriz rugs are woven with a double weft and this system is copied now by many other regions.
.Silk Heriz rugs are appreciated greatly on account of their incredibly fine weave and are therefore much in demand as collectors' items. . These pieces should only be bought and sold by professional people with a very extensive knowledge of the carpet business, especial care being given to the proper valuation of each rug. |
