The Chelsea designs owes its name to a carpet gallery in Chelsea where a carpet originally belonging to King Safi of Ardebil (16th century) was first discovered. The carpet is now been shown in the Victoria Albert museum in London. It should correctly be referred to as Shaikh Safi design. This is a unique design in which two medallion corner type fields were connected vertically. Eight fish are swimming around the lake in the centre of the field.
The Main border is a repetition of red and navy blue Mehrab alternately changing direction
