Veramin is a small town near Tehran in northern Persia inhabited by both Luri and Kurdish settled tribesmen. The town is renowned for the pure beauty of its finely knotted and sophisticated rugs.
The most common designs are mina-Khani, Zel-I-sultan and Herati designs. During the course of history, several Persian Shahs moved Iranian Kurdish groups from their tribal heartland to northeastern Iran and also to Veramin, South East of Tehran.
They have interesting carpets of good quality and attractive colours, for instance, : light blue (often used as a background colour) , pink and, ivory. The dominant motif is the mina khani pattern. Recent production has had some success on the international market. |
