| Ziegler rugs gain their name from the similarly named design company who set up manufacturing in Iran creating a hybrid of Persian Mahal and Farahan designs, displacing "unnecessary" design elements to appeal to Western tastes. Nowadays, most "Ziegler rugs" are infact Afghan rugs in a Ziegler design. We have seen it spelt "Zeigler" or "Zigler", and referred to as Chobi, Choobi or Choubi rugs, each phonetic spellings of the Farsi word meaning wood coloured. Our Ziegler rugs are ALL hand knotted by Afghan weavers using superior quality Ghazni wool, which is handspun giving a fantastic grainy look to the rug and the special wash gives an antiquated appearance. Karachi wool is machine spun, and whilst not as attractive, is considerably lower priced. All our Ziegler rugs come with certificates of authenticity for your peace of mind.
We have hundreds of Ziegler rugs ranging from 150 x 90 cm to 600 x 400 cm, and runners from 200 x 60 cm up to lengths of 600 cm but as they are mostly unique, it is very difficult to offer them all online. Only a small selection is available and updated at every opportunity. Please email us your requirements and we will reply with details and photos of suitable rugs. We keep photos of sold rugs online for your reference. |
